Il pc di un mio amico (HP a6165.it - 2 Gb di Ram - Intel Core 2Duo Cpu E4400 2,00 Ghz - Windows Vista Home Premium) ci mette circa 3 minuti x partire. Ho già fatto la scansione con vari programmi per verificare se c'è malware (negativo), già fatto il defrag con JkDefrag, già modificato parametri per ampliare il file di swap, già visionato MSCONFIG x eliminare in partenza i programmi inutili, ma il risultato praticamente non cambia. Però, se da Pannello di Controllo -> Sistema e Manutenzione -> Sistema, lancio, per esempio, il "calcolo prestazioni Windows" mi dà un errore, idem se utilizzo altre richieste di verifica integrità del sistema ...... per tutto il resto, il pc funziona perfettamente. Ho utilizzato anche PROCMON per vedere dove sono i tempi lunghi in partenza e mettendo come "duration" > 5, mi trovo che i tempi + lunghi sono su SVCHOST.EXE in c:\Windows\Tasks ed in EXPLORER.EXE in c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu, entrambi con "NotifyChangeDirectory" ...... il pc è aggiornato all'ultima versione con Windows Update.
Visto che il problema riguarda soltanto i tempi di avvio e non dà altri segni di malfunzionamento, vorrei evitare di formattare e reinstallare il tutto, anche se gli errori di cui sopra nel sistema, mi fanno pensare che ci siano problemi "strutturali".

Sembra un problema di troppi programmi messi all'avvio.
Fai un log di HijackThis, e mettilo nella sezione Sicurezza, specificando che NON vuoi cercare malware, ma pulire l'avvio.

Devi cliccare su:Scan and save log

miottis non appettarti miracoli dal tuo sistema in fase d'avvio , chi ti scrive ha il tuo stesso sistema e devo dire che in fase d'avvio i tempi sono quelli,

al massimo ti posso consigliare soluto, un programma che valuta i processi che ritardano l'avvio.
